Burnham Market

Largest of the Burnham Villages its picturesque and quintessential centre clusters around the village green surrounded by fine Georgian houses and a wealth of shops, eateries and galleries. A great place to shop for supper, stroll, relax, sit awhile or indulge in retail therapy. With food, restaurants, recreational activities and footpaths you can truly leave the car in the cottage car park.

The Village

Picture

The village prides itself on the fantastic range and individuality of its stores - clothes, bespoke design jewellers, furnishings and gifts are well as bookshops, newsagents, post office, small art galleries and antiques are all nestled within the village. Ladies looking for a special occasion hat need go no further than climbing the stairs of the famous Hat Shop for an amazing array of designs and colours. Sadly, the village no longer boasts two banks but you can use the post office and many of the local shops to get cashback.

Eating In

Picture
This is made easy with an excellent Butcher (Howells) and Fishmongers (Gurney) as well as Humble Pie and Tuscan Farm Shop Delis for those special treats and meals. Uttings (Hardware) has fruit, veg, bread and small dairy items whilst Howells have local veg/fruit stalls outside the shop.  Day to day necessities are equally well catered for with both Burnham Market Stores and the Station Stores on the village edge. Leading supermarkets will deliver but with such a variety of fantastic local produce on the cottage doorstep it is good to support the local economy.

Eating in but don't fancy cooking
No.Twenty9 – takeaway Wood-fired pizzas.
The Mermaid Fish Bar and The Chinese (both located within The Burnham Garage forecourt);
The English Canape Co. – excellent cottage menu can be pre-ordered prior to holiday and brought to you.
Humble Pie - prepared freezer meals.

Guest Review - June 2019

" We have really enjoyed our stays at Barley Cottage over the past few summers.
Being a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Burnham market is ideal and the cottage is very comfortable and the owners Sue and Andrew , very friendly and welcoming. There are lots of good walks in the local area and the sea is a short drive away, including the beaches at Holkham and Holme. The cottage also has good parking and a small garden for outside dining and barbecuing. All in all a really nice place to stay. "
